I received a phone call today from an addicted gambler who has self excluded using the Count Me Out system. He was concerned that there was a family entertainment centre near his home town and he wanted to self excluded from the premises. I called the owner and explained the situation and asked if they would be prepared to post a self exclusion form to the gambler. They refused even though the person wishing to self exclude was prepared to get the form counter signed and send in a photograph of...

We have had the first person self exclude using the Count Me Out Alcohol Self Exclusion Scheme this week.
Andrew has also volunteered to act as a community champion on behalf of Empowering-Communities to encourage other licensees and organisations to participate in the scheme.
It is commendable and very encouraging that Andy has decided to help the Empowering-Communities team promote this initiative.
I am hopeful that with Andy's help we can raise awareness...

I had a telephone call from an addicted gamblers, carer today. The person concerned had returned home, having lost all his money playing on gaming machines. Following a brief discussion I received a completed Count Me Out Gambling Self Exclusion form by fax and the excluding persons photograph via email. As one busy week draws to a close another is about to start for the Empowering-Communities Team. Last week saw the launch of the Norfolk NightSafe-SIRCS initiative. The scheme went live on Tuesday 20th January.
The first Red Exclusion Order Card was issued in Great Yarmouth at 21.45 hours on Saturday 24th January 2009. Less than 10 minutes later over 70 licensees and police officers had been sent the person’s image via the secure NightSafe-SIRCS database.

An excellent example of SIRCS in Action.
Does anyone have any views on cheap alcohol promotions ?
For instance do "clubbers" buy more just because the drinks are so cheap ?
Are younger clubbers more likely to be influenced by these cheap offers in clubs and bars ?

Your Count Me Out scheme is excellent and would greatly benefit my son who has gambled all his adult life and lost fortunes etc. It seems that none of the big betting companies i.e. Ladbrokes, W.Hill etc. are members of your scheme. Also internet betting companies would also need to sign up to your programme for self exclusion. It appears many companies run their own self exclusion and feel they do not need you.
A national scheme is certainly needed. What an excellent programme you have produced....
