About Empowering-Communities:

Empowering-Communities from Empowering-Communities on Vimeo.

When you press play you may experience jittery playback. This is caused by slower internet speeds and occurs because the video is still buffering when you are watching it. Once it finishes buffering, jittery playback tends to disappear. It's a good idea to let the video buffer completely before playing it.

Empowering-Communities was founded as a not for profit Social Enterprise in 2007 and is registered as a Community Interest Company with Companies House. Our aim is to help and empower victims, local communities, vulnerable people and their families. We achieve this through a number of projects including:

  • The Empowering-Communities Domestic and Sexual Abuse Reduction Partnership
  • The Empowering-Communities Domestic Abuse Survivors Programme and support groups
  • The Count Me Out National Gambling Self Exclusion Scheme
  • The Count Me Out Alcohol Self Exclusion Scheme
  • SIRCS (Secure Incident Reporting & Community Engagement System)
  • Business Crime Reduction Partnership Administration support service

Our team of 7 (not including our community
volunteers who help with our
Domestic Abuse Support Groups)
are based at the Riverside Business
Centre, Riverside Road, Lowestoft. (Pictured right).

As an organisation we are not funded but self sustaining. We believe that a heavy reliance on funding can leave organisations vulnerable especially in an economic down turn. Our unique and robust business model means we can provide long term help to communities and there are no limitations on the people and communities we can work with.

In financial terms we saw a growth of 88% in 08/09 compared to 07/08. In the first 9 months of our 09/10 financial year we have already seen a remarkable growth of 105% compared to 08/09. Over the next 3 years we conservatively predict we will continue to grow by at least 85% each year. This growth will be partly due to the expiry of contracts that some Business Crime Reduction Partnesrhips have with software systems such as NBIS.

Our sustainabliity and security is further strenghened by the fact that although as a social enterprise we compete in the market like any other business we do not exist to serve the interests of shareholders. We are not motivated by personal gain and are continually reinvesting any profits back into the organisation or as in the case of our Domestic Abuse Survivors Programme directly into the community.
